The first step to organize your kitchen utensils is identifying the utensils you frequently use. You need to determine what you need and what you don’t need. Those utensils that are infrequently used should be kept in a secluded place. Also, you might need to toss away or donate those utensils you haven’t used for a long time. If you have multiple egg-slicer milling or a milk-frother in your drawer, which you haven’t used for many years, it’s time to clean them out.

So, when organizing your kitchen utensils, ask yourself “Do I use this?” if the answer is no, donate it. Having eliminated the items you do not need, it’s time to organize your kitchen. Here are five tips to help you organize your kitchen better;

Step 1: Sort Them Out

Open your cabinets and drawers, and put each item into one of these two categories; rarely used and frequently used.

Step 2: Use Organizing Bins

All of your rarely-used items such as cookie cutters, cake pans shaped like stars, and turkey basters can be packed in separate places. Use plastic organizing bins and old mason jars to store them so as to clear some extra cabinet space. Put utensils that should be used  together in one box or jar, and then neatly pack them away.

TIP: if you find your mason jar filled with cutlery attractive, it can double as a decorative item. You can place it on top your fridge or cabinet to add a decorative element to your kitchen.

Step 3: Use Magnetic Strip to Hold Metal Items

The frequently-used metal items should be placed in an accessible place. Find an unused spot on your kitchen wall and fit a magnetic strip to hold your kitchen knives in place.

Step 4: Group Similar Items

Depending on how you use your kitchen, group all complimentary items in your drawers. If you use filters, mugs and coffee scoop to prepare your morning drink, keep them close together. You can use desk organizers, old boxes, and small jars to organize them.

Step 5: Make Use of Tack Board

Instead of hiding kitchen utensils with handles in your drawers, consider hanging them on a tack board. They will look nice, and this will create more space in your drawer.
